Fake it till you make it!

Calven Klain sometimes you just have to fake it til you make it!

Fake it till you make it! Sometimes you just have to make the most of what you have in your hand. I took this picture in Jamaica as the young man proudly displayed his 'label' and it made me laugh he seemed totally oblivious to the fact that the label to be sporting is Calvin Klein which got me thinking sometimes we are so caught up in what other people may think of us and what we are doing that we never actually step out and do it or be it. Be bold and start strutting your stuff even if you are wearing your Kelvin Klains. … [Read more...]

There is always a way!

My beautiful picture

Don't sweat the hard stuff! I took this picture of a man in the caribbean organising the foundation to lay concrete in his bare feet. As I cringed at the prospect he was happily joking with colleagues and working away. I just had to capture the moment. It is a powerful reminder of what is possible irrespective of how challenging the obstacle and how ill equipped we may feel. Our job is simply to want to get the job or task done and allow the how to take care of itself. There is always a way. When the why is powerful enough the how … [Read more...]

You can still grow!

Growing when nothing else seems to be

I really love this picture as it is a gentle reminder that even in the midst of a space where nothing seems to be happening and growing you can. You simply have to chose just like this lump of grass is doing. … [Read more...]

Your Bucket List

Write your bucket list

I delivered my first laughter workshop to an unsuspecting audience of disabled adults all wheelchair bound and I was humbled by the experience. What on earth did I have to complain about and furthermore their laughter was no less sincere than my own. Many of them had been sitting in that same chair for 30 years or in some cases a lot more. During the session it got onto the issues of what we can and cannot do and it got me thinking and I decided it was time to revisit my list of things I wanted to do and get down before it was all over. I know … [Read more...]

Get out of the way success is coming!

get out of the way

Has it ever occurred to you that the barrier to your success is actually you! I mean the other 'you'. You know the 'you' that has a long list of legitimate excuses. I mean reasons why you can't do it just yet. The 'you' that has a long list of reasons why you're not worth that much or why that is too lofty a dream or why you’re not quite good enough. I could easily go on and on but I’m sure you’re getting the picture. I hold my hand up as I too have been suffering at the hands of this approach and perspective on life. For months I … [Read more...]

The Persistence Code

Muhammed Ali and the value of persistence

I was just trawling my way through a pile of things I had put to one side under the promise of a pink post it note scrawled with the words 'Read Later'. I am sure I am not the only one who finds themselves with too much stuff and not enough time to get through it all so then create a special pile of things to come back to later which of course is a lie as we know we have no real intention of going back there after all 'too much stuff and not enough time'. But on one of those rare occasions we may pause for a moment to see what we have … [Read more...]

7 things I learnt from the Oscars

7 things I learnt from the Oscars

It happened the great, the good and the unknown dressed up in new and borrowed items to show off curves, style and panache as they walked and sauntered along the red carpet in the hope of winning an award or at the very least be in a position to say I was there when so and so gave that amazing acceptance speech or whimpered into their hanky when they found they hadn’t won (or won). The 83rd Annual Academy Awards took place last night. I have to admit I have only seen one of the films nominated but it was obviously a great choice as The … [Read more...]

Happy Valentine’s Day

Who do you see when you look in the mirror?

I wanted to say something deep and meaningful but the thought of another day filled with love, chocolate and flowers and none of it directed at me is a little hard to be cheerful about so instead I will wish you well and ask you to stop for a moment to take a long look in the mirror. Who is the person looking back? Today whether you are inundated with cards. chocolates or flowers or have been reminded that one half of your couple is missing, the most important thing is how you see yourself. Stop and take a long look in the mirror and … [Read more...]

The new you

The Butterfly

What do you do with something that is past its sell by date and has little or no use to you now, unless it is to serve as a reminder of days gone by (and do you really want to be reminded of that?) Give it away, take it to a charity shop, or sell it on eBay are very plausible strategies when talking about inanimate objects that have been lurking in the back of the wardrobe or cupboard or simply been taking up valuable space but when you are talking about something a lot more personal and closer to home and to which you have a greater attachment … [Read more...]
