I have for a long time been a writer who doesn't write. Not any more. I am back with my fingers at the keyboard and excited about the possibilities. … [Read more...]

Coca Cola do it again!

We are bombarded daily with adverts about one thing or another and sometimes they connect with us immediately whilst at other times they have little or no impact at all. And sometimes this has nothing to do with whether we are interested in the product or service. This happened to me recently and I just had to share it with you. ‘Powerade', the Official Sports Drink of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and Team GB, has produced a set of print advertisements featuring nude English Olympic athletes. If the 'naked' body offends you, look away … [Read more...]

I declare 2009 the Year of the Credit Brunch!

2009 and has been called many things, most of which has some rather negative connatations and all of which set to remind us just how 'bad' a year we have ahead of us. How refreshing it is to get someone else's take on it that embraces the challenges but sees through the mist of uncertainty and has developed a more positive outlook. Philippe Granger has declared 2009 as the year of the credit brunch, a year of adventures, experiences, discoveries, opportunities, growth, success and prosperity. It will be a colourful year, with seasons ordained … [Read more...]

The Intensive Care Waiting Room

What a strange title for a piece of writing crafted to challenge your thinking and push open the boundaries of possibility but lessons for us to learn are everywhere and none more so than at a time when you have nothing but time on your hands to ponder, reflect and think of happier more joyous moments. The nature of the Intensive Care Waiting Room is that you are forced into a space, not unlike a corridor, which you need to move through in order to get to the other side. There are pauses and challenges that hinder your movement and as you … [Read more...]

Lessons from the jigsaw!

A friend of mine recently spent a total of 22 hours over 5 days on a jigsaw puzzle and learnt some valuable lessons in the process. I have included an exert from what she learnt below. Even if you do not believe in God the idea that life is really a big jigsaw puzzle is a useful approach to looking at life. 'Drama at the Opera' was a Christmas present in 2007 but as she had an extremely busy year, she did not get an opportunity to work on the 1,000 piece puzzle until Christmas 2008. It left her with little time for anything else. A typical day … [Read more...]

Yes YOU can!

If you are courageous enough today could be a new beginning for you because today you have been given the permission you have desperately sought to rise higher than you have ever risen before, to claim the successes you richly deserve and more importantly you have permission to be yourself. Find yourself a comfortable spot to sit and relax. Use a few moments to clear your mind of the things that have been clogging its pores and misusing your time. Now close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths and allow yourself to drift away on the big cloud of … [Read more...]

Ambition is a powerful driver!

“Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.” Bill Bradley Just like a car needs petrol to propel it on its way we need ‘ambition’ to propel us to our chosen destinations in life, but too often that ambition has been watered down and seasoned by the opinions of others, our past experiences and a belief system that says we aren’t good enough. We have been derailed and left winded and either unable or unwilling to push further or aim higher, simply settling for maintaining the status quo. The dictionary … [Read more...]

The power is in the plan

“Failing to plan is planning to fail” and “proper planning prevents p*** poor performance” are sayings we are all too familiar with but they have quickly become more about what you say and less about what you do. In fact the plan has almost become hostage to the business world and we have forgotten to apply the same powerful principles to our everyday life. Having a written plan of what you want to do, where you want to go and carefully defining the steps of how you are going to get there is critical if we are serious about achieving … [Read more...]

The Race is on!

As the days race by, the question on everyone's lips and when I say everyone I am really refering to the people who care about what happens in the political arena and those who are curious enough to keep watching even though they don't really care, is are we about to witness one of the greatest events in history since the pulling down of the Berlin wall? Are we about to see the election of a black president to the White House? That statement in itself has to make you smile. The polls suggest we are and some may even suggest that it is a little … [Read more...]

It’s a wonderful life!

This is inspired by and dedicated to the memory of Daniel De Gale, the young man who was the inspiration behind the African Caribbean Leukemia Trust (ACLT) who sadly passed away on 8 October 2008.
